Extraordinary Girl Round Up & Winners Announced

We had a amazing week with all the Extraordinary Girls on the tour. What a joy it was to  feature this pattern by Fille a Maman. Just in case you missed something here's a round up of all posts, I certainly was inspired and I didn't get a chance to make one for myself just yet but now I'm itching to get my own done. The winners of the two PDF pattern bundles will also be announced so be sure to read to the end.

We started off the week wit Call AjaireThe Crazy TailorFrom a Box, and Sew Out of Control. I love that fun colors and fabrics were used in the little girl's versions. Here is a quick peek at what Sarah from The Crazy Tailor made.

On Tuesday we saw a quick hack and tutorial from Sofilantjes, a mommy and me version from Keep Calm and Carrion and two cuties calling for spring with bright colors over at Lulu & Celeste and my own little one right here at Sprouting JubeJube.

Day 3 and we had Rebel & Malice with mommy and me dress tutorial out of the Extraordinary Girl pattern, a detailed tutorial by Isn't That Sew on how to combine two sizes because just about no one fits standard measurements, and both Rebekah Sews and Sew Starly created mommy (or grandma) and me versions.

On Day 4 we had Project Destash, House of Estrela and Thread Riding Hood. All seemed to be having fun times with mommy and me looks created with this pattern.

Day 5, the last day was a huge day! 6 blogs showed us what they made. Mabey She Made It showed off some sisterly fun times, an elegant grey and pink was made over at La Casa Cactus, and the Shaffer Sisters mixed and matched so many fun fabrics in there version of the top. Pienkel had a cute comfy version with some stripes, Sew Cool for the Tween Scene made this top look very cool for her tweens and last but not least Phat Quarters made us giggle with how practicle she found her new top which by the was looks great.

My Extraordinary Girl

Day 2 of the Extraordinary Girl Blog Tour and I'm showing off my extraordinary girl.

This pattern by Filles a Maman is the perfect staple for every girls' (big or small) wardrobe. Made comfy and practicle with a cotton knit fabric for everyday play or dress it up with a rayon blend knit for women at work.

I think my favorite part of this design is the neckline. The lap tee is just perfect for ease in getting little ones dressed.

This monkey face approves of her new top, she walked into the sewing room and started picking out fabric for her new top so that means I have a couple more of these in the works.

More details about this pattern:
  • Size range for girls is 12 months to 14 years, for women XS to XXL
  • Designed for knit fabrics
  • Slight hi-lo hem
  • Easy to follow instruction,  drawings included with every step
  • Pattern is available in English and French

You can also pick up your Extraordinary Girl (affiliate link) at a special price of 7.00$ for either all the grils' sizes or all the women's sizes or get the bundle for 13.00$ instead 19.58$. This is only for the duration of the tour.

One Thimble Blog Tour

Issue No.6 of One Thimble is now available and its packed with 10 fun patterns that I'm sure you'll use over and over again.

I wanted to go out of my comfort zone and try my hand at making the Gatsby Flat Cap.

If you've never sewn anything like this before this is a fantastic pattern to start off with. The instuctions are clear and easy to follow with step-by-step photos. I wouln't say its a beginner project because there is a lot of curves and seams in hard to reach places, but an advanced beginner on the way to intermediante status would have fun sewing up this pattern.

I would have usually avoided any toys during a mini shoot but I just couldn't help it. The style of this hat is screaming "hey, have fun with me" so I listened and got out the dog guitar.

Sizes on this PDF pattern rage from XXS (6-12 months)  to XXXL (adult)  or head circumfrence 19 inches to 24.25 inches.

I used a poly blend suiting but I bet a wool blend would look great, a tweed or even a bottom weight or denim would work.

Looking for more inspiration for the patterns available in One Thimble issue No.6 just follow the rest of the stops on this tour.

Sharing Thoughts About Holly

The response to the new Holly dress pattern by Audrey & Tiffany has been heart warming to say the least. Many of the testers in the group have thier own blogs so I wanted to share with you what they have been writing about Holly.

Get your own pattern in Audrey & Tiffany's Etsy shop. Use the code "HOLLY" at check out to get 25% off (this code is also good on the pruchase of the Secret Garden dress). This code will expire February 14th, 2015 at the end of the day.

Take a looks at Sew Happy, Soraia made a beautiful soft floral dress with pintucked bodice.

Stacey from All Sewn Up used this unbelievably cute bicycle fabric with a coordinating fabric for the contrast band.

Fatimas from Conversas de Hermanas...her version of the dress and her photography just stole my heart!

Amanda from Stitch to Stitch added perfect top stitching to the bodice of her dress.

Dorothea from Bonnie and Lottie layered her colorful dress with a long sleeve tee and leggings in keeping with the cooler weather, but still oh so cute!

Eva who writes at Naaikriebles made a beautiful version of the dress with one of my favorite fabrics from Robert Kaufman's organic cotton collection.

Here is also a quick look at what some of the other testers made with this pattern...so much fun inspiration!

Holly Dress by Audrey & Tiffany

Introducing Holly by Audrey & Tiffany

I have some really big news, the follow up pattern to the Secret Garden dress is now available! For those who need to do some catching up, last year Allison of E+M Patterns and I teamed up to design the pattern and create a tutorial for the Secret Garden dress. We very much enjoyed our experience and created a new pattern shop to release more of our collaborations by the name of Audrey & Tiffany. Today marks the big release of Holly.

You can find Holly and the Secret Garden in our band new Etsy shop...and through to the 14th of February get 25% off you order using the code "HOLLY" at checkout.

The design is very simple, a pretty 1/4 circle skirt above the knee with an empire waist, delicate contrast band and bodice with two different options (pintucks or gathers). The back is a series of buttons and loops and includes a packet for full coverage.

We had an amazing team of testers for this pattern, we couldn't have done it without them. I'll be showing some of the tester photos a little later on in the week.

Until next time, xx.

Reviewing Amanda by Lily Bird Studio

This is the first time sewing up a pattern from Lily Bird Studio and I'm so glad I got a chance to review this pattern for DIY Crush. This is the Amanda pattern but there are a lot more in the pattern shop from Lily Bird Studio.

This dress is all about the little details.

The inverted pleat and the bias trim at the sleeve hem...

The oversized button on the back of the sash all trimed out with bias, the buttons down the back...

And that full circle skirt...All those little details make JubeJube feel like a princess, well that's what she told me. She said she even wants to wear it to her Vanlentine's Day event at school.

I love that the dress is not covered in frills and bows, but it does have wonderful twirl factor. I added a light pettiskirt to add to the fullness. I got a "mom, you're being silly putting my dress over a skirt" but in the end she did not mind it one bit.

Here are some of the pattern details:

  • This pattern was designed for woven fabrics.
  • Sizes range from 12 months to 10 years
  • Easy to follow tutorial with photographs for step by step instructions
  • 1/4" seam allowances included
  • Lined bodice and option to have a fully lined dress

Just so you know, I did get the pattern for free in exchange for a review but all opinions are my own.

I hope you go check out what other patterns Lily Bird Studio has to offer, and while your at it check out the over 500 pattern listings on DIY Crush. Also, don't forget to enter your Vanlentine's Day project to DIY Crush before February 15th, 2015...Some great prizes are up for grabs...Get the details here! You might have noticed that I'm one of the 3 judges (how fun is that!).

Until next time, xx.
