One Thimble Inspiration Tour Issue 10

So glad to be here celebrating the 10th issue of One Thimble digital magazine! This issue is packed with amazing sewing patterns and crafts and articles answering questions that we all ask ourselves like should we prewash all fabrics before sewing. I'm not going to give you the answer to that one, you'll have to check that one out for yourself.

I will let you know my thoughts on the Willow shirt by Felicity Patterns though. You can also enter the rafflecopter giveaway at the end, so make sure your read all the way through!

Before sewing up this shirt I honestly had never heard of Felicity patterns. I went in to the project quite critical as I usually do when I don't know a designer. It helps me determine what I like and what I don't like and what I would do differntly.

My critical atitude soon subsided with finding out how delightful it was to sew up this pattern. I made the shirt without a contrast fabric. and I also changed the position of the button tab. Nothing stopping me though from making another a putting the button tab as instructed.

Beautiful details in the back with a yoke and box pleast.

Safe to say Amelia likes it and that it will make a perfect shirt come spring time for the warmer weather.

Here are the other stops on the tour just in case you missed something!

Until next time, xx.

* I did get this pattern for free for the purpose of the tour, but all opinions and ideas are my own.

Alyss or Alice?

When Issue #7 of One Thimble came out in May I fell head over heals for the Alyss dress designed by Ainslee Fox. You may remember the post I had with the Alice appliqué here. As my to-do list got longer I put this one right near the top to make sure I got it done in time for JubeJube's birthday party.

My Julia was over the moon happy on party day when I dressed her up in her new Alyss dress.

When you have an Alice in Wonderland themed party you need an Alyss dress!

The dress is suggested for intermediate and advanced sewers because of the zipper (at the back or at the side depending on the option you choose) and the concave curve in the bodice. Alyss also features a fully lined bodice, peter pan collar and gathered knee length skirt. I went with the option of putting the zipper at the back, it just made more sense for me due to the fact that I didn't love the buttons I had on hand and I didn't have enough time to run to the store (at 1 am in the morning).

Make sure to read those instructions while making this dress, the seam allowances vary from 3/8" to 5/8" and those very important details are all in the tutorial!

This pattern is available in sizes 1 to 12 years with the back zipper option and 4 to 12 years with the side zipper option. I'll need to make another of this very sweet dress to include the sides zipper the next time around.

Our pear tree in the yard got a bit of a make over for the occasion too. I decorated it with giant playing cards, rose topiary and clock. We also created the very confusing direction sign out of repurposed wood and a tea pot pinata which was fun for the kids to take a wack at.

I'll have the little tea pot tutorial up next this week.

Until next time, xx.

One Thimble Issue #7, Down the Rabbit Hole

Issue #7 of One Thimble is filled with so much fun and make-believe for the kids, but also a couple of fun patterns for moms too. It was love at first sight when I saw the Alice Applique created by Ric-Rac & Retro.

I used a t-shirt as the applique's canvas, but it can be put on just about anything, a bag, pillow or blanket. These little appliques are really great for those little pieces in your stash that you just can't bare to throw away.

My first thought was just to purchase a t-shirt and add the applique to it, but then there's so much work that goes into the applique with all those tiny details that its best to work on it as a flat surface then finish up the garment.

I did go and put my own spin on it, in the end my applique doesn't look like Alice, she looks more like my own JubeJube, but that's the fun part of being creative. I also used a lot of zig-zag satin stich for the contour of the different parts. This project just had a mind of its own and I went with the flow.

The tutorial is so full of great information to get super results like the use of Heat and Bond and other fun products to help stabilize your fabrics. There's also this great chart included with the tutoral to help you scale down the size of you Alice to make her as small as you want. The one I made was scaled to 100%.

One Thimble Blog Tour

Issue No.6 of One Thimble is now available and its packed with 10 fun patterns that I'm sure you'll use over and over again.

I wanted to go out of my comfort zone and try my hand at making the Gatsby Flat Cap.

If you've never sewn anything like this before this is a fantastic pattern to start off with. The instuctions are clear and easy to follow with step-by-step photos. I wouln't say its a beginner project because there is a lot of curves and seams in hard to reach places, but an advanced beginner on the way to intermediante status would have fun sewing up this pattern.

I would have usually avoided any toys during a mini shoot but I just couldn't help it. The style of this hat is screaming "hey, have fun with me" so I listened and got out the dog guitar.

Sizes on this PDF pattern rage from XXS (6-12 months)  to XXXL (adult)  or head circumfrence 19 inches to 24.25 inches.

I used a poly blend suiting but I bet a wool blend would look great, a tweed or even a bottom weight or denim would work.

Looking for more inspiration for the patterns available in One Thimble issue No.6 just follow the rest of the stops on this tour.
