Breaking Ground Part 2

I'm back on the Breaking Ground Blog tour that Melissa of MahlicaDesigns has put together.

Today I'm featuring the Halla Slimfit Dolman. Yes I know, nothing ground breaking about a dolman, but the whole point of the tour is to try new designers or new techniques. I opted for a new to me designer. I love a good dolman style top, I've tried many of the different patterns out there like the Asymmetrical Drape by EYMM and the Seafarer by Sew Much Ado. This one is different and its right on trend with the dolman styles that we're seeing in stores, especially when making the long sleeve option.

Before going any further, go join the Halla Patterns facebook group. There are a bunch of discount codes to allow you to get this pattern (and others) for free!

This pattern even if it wasn't a promotional pattern would be a great staple pattern in anyone's pattern collection and a fantastic piece to have in your wardrobe.

There's a few different options on this pattern, long or short sleeves, armbands for the short sleeves, and also different lengths to create a tunic. The size range is huge! Size 00 to size 26 are all available on this pattern and the layered printing feature is available so you print out only the sizes you need.

I think this pattern with its great fit is so worth the time and effort of printing, cutting and sewing. Go check them out, Halla Patterns!

Need some inspiration to get going on that spring wardrobe, go check out the rest of the bloggers on the Breaking Ground tour!

Sewing Space Revamp

Some of you may remember seeing this blog post about my sewing room. This was way back in November 2013. Well it was time for a face lift. the old space started to feel crowded and unorganized.

The paint color hasn't changed and some of the furniture stayed. I kept Gorm (no longer available) from IKEA (the comparable is Hejne). Those shelving units are perfect for storing fabric and adding project baskets.

This revamp started with a trip to IKEA, who am I kidding, just about every home improvement or remodel starts with a trip there, right? I was just toying with the idea of a dream sewing room and changing out the desk that I had (my old kitchen table, no joke) with a brand new table top, then I saw that Klimpen (table legs with storage) was on liquidation. BUT I didn't buy everthing just then and there. Went home and drew my room on a piece of graph paper to make sure the new desk would fit. So off to IKEA again to buy the table and legs.

Those shelves were all Dan's idea, he said I just had too much stuff not to get shelves in here...Off to IKEA again? ummm yes.

I was pleased as punch when I realized that Antonius was a perfect fit under the desk. This is where I keep my threads, interfacing, velcro and snaps.

I have a small table, counter height, to cut on, but I also use the dining room table when the pattern pieces are just too big.

To the right of that table in back of the door are hooks that I use to hang my assembled patterns. This is the system that works best for me, I've tried keeping them in binders but I just got to the point where I couldn't see what I had.

And well this is the Wall 'O fabric. I'm working on getting my stash undercontrol. The only thing missing in this room I would say is a closet to hide the ugly, like the fabric up on the top self.

Hope you enjoyed the tour!

Until next time, xx

Breaking Ground Part 1

Today is all about breaking ground! A lot of first times here...

For starters, this is a first for me, I got this project going back in January. I was pattern shopping on a website I had never used before, it has many designers, I recognised some designers from the website but a lot of them are new to me. When I saw the Joline Hoodie by Dreiem's that I found on Makerist, I knew it was the project for me. Another first, I got to practice my German (heeheee) the pattern instructions are in English but the pattern pieces are all noted in German (but pretty self explanatory).

The sizes available in this pattern are from XS to XXXL for women. I made it with the hoodie but there is also an option for a cowl type collar.

I added a machine embroidery to the side of the hood, to make it more personalized. I actually went and fixed up that sewing studio to make it easier to be more productive and creative (photos in my next blog post)...and since we're talking about breaking ground, this was my first completed project in my revamped sewing room.

I'm loving my new hoodie, the size is spot on according to the measurement chart and its a style I'll for sure be making again!

Color Me Lucky!

Today is about color and color trends but also about Willow by Petite Stitchery &Co

Every year we see color trends, here's a little reason why; Pantone will selects a set of colors that are the trend for that year, and we see those colors everywhere, from home decor to clothing, in crafting supplies like paper and inks. The color of 2017 in Greenery 15-0343, it is said to inspire growth and new life. JubeJube is all set for this years color trend with her new Willow blouse.

Willow is part of the new Boho collection just released. It was designed as a tunic or dress with different sleeve options.  The back is the show-stopper on this one with its yoke and the possibilities of color blocking. The pattern is available in sizes 2T to 12 years.

I used a light weight cotton voile, light weight wovens are recommended for this blouse.

This is such an easy style to pair with leggings or jeans.

For more information about Petite Stitchery & Co. and fun sharing and inspiration, join their facebook group!

I think I did well on getting the Pantone colors into the project, I see Primrose Yellow, Greenery, a little Lapis and Island, even a splash of Yarrow.

These are the colors you'll want to consider if you're a color trend follower!

All about Petitboo!

So its my turn to post my makes using Petitboo patterns...but first I think it would be fun to back track to when Petitboo was E+M Patterns, just so you know these patterns have been around and they are tried, tested, and true!

First up, Rose. This was Julia's all time favorite dress and I just had to make another. This dress first appeared on my blog in September 2014. Squeel! Look at her little round face!

And now, March 2017

This is the Hemlock shirt, it was on the blog back in June 2014...

Here's the most recent one I made.

I made the bottom part of the bodice a longer, and instead of the 15 inches required in width I used 23 inches to be able to make gathers and create a little girly look for this shirt.

And finally, Huckleberry, from March 2014...That cat must have made it into every photoshoot...It kept JubeJube happy at least!

And now, March 2017... Three years later!

I've been hoarding this fabric for some time now, I love it and I thought it would look best as a very comfy looking trouser, its more of a chambray then a denim, so light and airy.

All week long you'll be able to see more fun creations and inspiration with Petitboo patterns...And to top it off, Allison has added a coupon code for her Etsy shop! Enjoy 50% off on ALL patterns with the code "PETITBOO50" at checkout! Code only valid in Etsy and until Friday, March 10th. Oh and FYI you can get a couple of free patterns in the Petitboo Craftsy shop...try them out, you'll love working with these patterns!

By the way, Melissa at MahlicaDesigns has her post up too... you need to go check out the lightning t-shirt she made!

Petitboo Day 1

Some of you may have been wondering where has E+M Patterns gone...No fear, they have simply moved to a new place to go join Petitboo on Craftsy and Etsy. Both pattern shops are owned by Allison and to simplify a busy life she decided to merge both pattern companies!

Here's just a sneak peek at what Roxanne of Crafty Like a Rox  and Miranda of Inspinration have created with Petitboo patterns.
