Basically Jalie Blog Tour

Find out what happens when you mix Jalie patterns, Discovery Trekking Outfitters base layer fabrics and a Brother 3550 coverstitch. 

I actually got my Sabrina walk into my sewing room, as I was sewing the last seam, saying "hummm, I like that, is it for me?" In all truthfullness, I had made Marie-Claude for me but how could I say no to such a face and I made sure that one of the conditions to getting said top was to get her to model it!

Now going back to the beginning of this project. I gave Discovery Trekking Outfitters a call to talk about the fabric I wanted to try. I spoke to Martha who was so helpful and patient. She spoke of the different properties the Polartec power wool has and I determined that I wanted to use the light-weight power wool. There are three different weights to the power wool : silk weight, lightweight and the heavier one which is more like a fleece. The combination of marino wool on the inside of the fabric and the polyester on the outside of the fabric help keep you toasty warm and dry while being active. The grid space traps warmth and keeps the fabric breathable. The fabric has enough stretch for comfort and ease of movement even for a close fitting garment.

After placing my order I received my fabric quickly, within the week! Washe it by machine and hung it to dry. I didn't want to take the change of shrinking the fabric since it does have wool in it. It washed beautifully and was even softer on the inside that when I received it.

I purchased the pattern some time ago first because I love raglan style tops and second, I also love hoodies. Since I had the pattern version (it can also be ordered online in a PDF home printable version) I traced out the size and pattern options I needed on a thin non-fusible interfacing.

When sewing, I would recommend stretch needles in your serger and coverstitch. My machine had issues with skipping stitches but changing the needles did the trick. I love the pink accent made with the coverstitch (and obviously so did Sabrina).

This pattern has three neckline options to it, I made the hoodie version but you can find a regular neckline and a turtle neck as well. Also included in the pattern are 27 sizes so this is a pattern that will get a lot of use.

This month with Sewing By Ti-Blog Tours is a little different... We're all showing off dresses and read to the end because there's a giveaway! 

I've come to realize that my go-to patterns for something easy, comfortable and great fitting, without any guessing games come from Patterns For Pirates (affiliate link). 

This is the Sunshine Dress, cross over bodice option in maxi length. 

Just a few things to expect from this pattern and any other pattern you may purchase from the Patterns For Pirates website:

• No trim pages. That is a huge bonus when you're in a time crunch or you're sewing while on vacation and don't want to deal with extra tools to bring along in your bags.
• Layering feature. Print only the sizes you need or want.
• Nested pattern pieces to be able to redraft pieces if you fall between sizes or need a large at the bust line and medium at the waist.
• Easy to follow instructions with step-by-step photos.
• 1/2" seam allowances. 
• All charts are available in metric and imperial measurements. 

The fabric is a rayon lycra blend with a lot of elasticity (more than 50%) from Club Tissus. Club Tissus has a brand new website and they now ship within Canada,  to the United States and if I'm not mistaken they also do international shipping. Something worth checking out!

Ugly Christmas Sweater Party with Petite Stitchery & Co.

Its been a bit of a busy season for me, but how can I resist sewing up another Rosemary by Petite Stitchery & Co. especailly since Amelia has been begging me for one ever since JubeJube has hers...that I posted about here. I don't do ugly Christmas very well, but the Rosemary I did make does have what I think look like snowflakes and an upcycled button.

The main fabric is a joggers fleece from my stash that I've been wanting to used to make myself a sweater (we all know I won't get one now, heeeheee) and the collar is Your Heart Pure by Art Gallery Fabrics that I got for this project at my local shop.

The only part of this Rosemary that I lined was the collar seeing that the main was quite think and little Amelia would have over heated in it. 

This button was in my stash it was removed from a jacket that I had made several years back and just loved all the different levels of pink in it. 

Without the lining this sweater really goes together quickly so if you have a last minute gift to make, this one is a little life saver...Saves you from going out, AND who doesn't like a sweater with a comfy collar to keep warm this time of year!
