The Simple Life by Monaluna Fabrics

When I first saw these fabrics I knew I wanted to make something beautiful. Something that I could stand back and look at and wonder what would my grandmother and great grandmother, who were quilters, think.

I have to admit it was a process, and at one point I didn't think that I would be able to show you a completed project, and again I wanted to push through because I knew that if I didn't get it finished and I were to post about a work in progess that this beautiful quilt would have taken a back seat to a bunch of other projects I have coming up. Now I can go back to feeding my kids and doing laundry...with the amount of hours I put into this one the rest of the house did take a back seat. So grateful that Daniel was there to make sure that there was clean underwear and lunches were made for the girls.

The quilt pattern I chose was Yellow Brick Road, available in the Etsy shop at Phat Quarters. I felt that it was the best way to combine all nine fabric prints in the new Simple Life collection by Monaluna. Maybe now I can stop singing Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John?

I still can't believe I went from cutting, to assembling, to quilting... in all less than a week for a twin size bed.

One thing about this quilt pattern that I would recommend, use a short stitch length so that your stitching doesn't come apart. The instructions have you assemble strips of fabric length wise then have you cut through those strips perpendicular to your stitching so yes, you need to cut right through your stitches.

I did skip the border on this one so I was left with four extra blocks, just enough for a throw pillow. So that's what I did. I even made it with a zipper so when I want to put the quilt away I can just store it in the throw pillow cover!

Now a little more about the fabric. This collection of prints by Monaluna is available in canvas (perfect for bags or coats), lawn (light weight cotton great for blouses and flowy dresses) or poplin (great for quilting or shirts). For obvious reasons I worked with the poplin. The fabric is just so wonderful to touch, the colors are beautiful and vibrant. The collection as a whole is just delicious!
