Amelia's Easter Dress

I can't believe how March just flew by. So glad to finally post about a sewing project, it feels like ages. So happy to say that I have a giveaway to go with this post! So I don't know if you noticed but I posted here about the sew along with Mandy K Design, sewing up an English Rose Dress...well I'm late to the party BUT I'm posting about my dress now so you'll get to see it.

I've been saving  hoarding this fabric, Lily and Willy by Bunny Hill for Moda Fabrics,  for about three years now and I think I used it for the most perfect Easter dress. The only regret that I would have is that I didn't have enough fabric to make that beautiful bow that's featured in this pattern so I had to make the simple sash instead.

With a larger print, like this one, fabric placement is so important. Yes I used up a little more fabric, but this is what makes the difference. It would have been a bit silly of me to not center the bunny, it could have made the bodice and the whole dress look off balance. I also did the same for the collar, taking my time to make sure the collar looked balanced.

I also lined up my print for the side seams. when you have a gathered skirt like this one it doesn't matter if you have a couple of extra inches on the width of the skirt, you just have more to gather for an extra poof, but the fact that my print matches up makes my garment look high end. For extra details on how to line up prints you can take a look at my tutorial here.

Again taking the time to balance out the back and make sure everyting was in line.

I just love the end result!

So enough about fabric placement, let's talk about the pattern. I used the English Rose dress pattern by Mandy K Design. I've never been disappointed with any of her patterns, even when it was for pattern testing. (You can take a peek at Tiers Of Joy and Cherry Blossom, these are patterns I've tested for Amanda)

The fit is always spot on to what is stated in the tutorial and photos are included with the step-by-step instructions.

Here are more details about this pattern:

  • Sizes range from 12 months to 14 years
  • Doll pattern for 18" doll included
  • Chart for yardage included
  • Chart for body measurements to find the correct size for you model included
  • Chart to print out only the options and sizes needed included (so you don't have to print out the whole pattern)
  • Some of the pattern pieces are not included for the straight cuts, you have to measure out your fabric and cut. I love this because again no messing around with printing and taping pages together to form your pattern piece.
  • 3/8" seam allowances included
  • Step-by-step photos are included with the tutorial
  • Different options for the skirt, sleeve, collar, and bow (the other sash is just so beautiful and that bow is over the top!)

Don't forget to enter the giveaway! Oh and if you want to stay up to date on new releases by MandyK Designs or get special discount offers join their Facebook group. Its a fun place to share and talk about everything sewing with the rest of the members.

Until next time, xx.
