Summer Lace Tour Featuring Tabitha by Love Notions

Adding lace to Tabitha by Love Notions* (affiliate link) was by far the easiest thing to do since it was designed with a color block yoke and added hem or shirt tail. So instead of trying to come up with a clever hack to Tabitha I decided to sew up the pattern giving it two different looks.

The first look is a classic stripe with a stretch lace, both fabrics available at Club Tissus. This look is great for just about anywhere from the office to Sunday brunch.

This pattern has so many options to it that I could have made a different Tabitha for every day of the week. I opted for the boat neckline and yoke lace insert with an added lace hem.

The second look, a Mickey Mouse print makes fun loungewear or pyjamas. The red stretch lace adds just the right amount of girly to this top.

Girly enough for pillow fights and pedicures...

As usual from Love Notions, you can expect a great pattern, with layered printing, trimless tiles for quick assembly and great fit!

This was a fun little experiment, making the same top in different fabrics to change the look of a garment. I went from office to pyjama, but could also have done casual to dressed up. Try it some time!

Handmade Holiday Tour with Love Notions

It happends every year, without fail, the girls get a new set of PJ's. Sometimes I must admit they are store bought, but most times I manage to take time to sew them up.

I do like Christmas themed pyjamas, but then when the holiday season is over I can't stand to see them... especially come spring time, it's almost like seasonal depression, I want to see the flowers in bloom and feel the heat of the sun on my face. So now you know where I'm going with the fabric selection on this PJ set I made for JubeJube using the Moto Maxx pattern by Love Notions (affiliate link).

I can't believe I haven't used this pattern before! I also can't believe I made JubeJube a size 7! Just a bit of trivia for you: the first pattern I ever made using a Love Notions pattern was the Trendy Tunic, I made JubeJube a size 2. Check out the cute face here (Click!) don't comment of the poor photography, lol.

The Moto Maxx set isn't just for PJ's, it can be used for everyday wear too. The top has a short sleeve option and also the long sleeve without the cuff, the hem line can be either a staight or scalloped. The usual features are included in this PDF, layered printing and trimless pages for quick assembly.

The pants have pocket options... front hip pockets and back pockets with flaps. I made the pants using a front hip pocket (note to self, check pockets before putting the pants in the laundry!).

I used the embroidery machine by Brother to add a special touch to the front of the t-shirt. I found Inspired Sayings by Designs by JuJu, and thought it would be a perfect match to the fabric and to JubeJube's way of thinking. The fabric is Art Gallery, Recollection purchased at Club Tissus.

And by the way, see that bunting in the back, just a sneak peek of a pattern being released in January 2018 by Rebecca Page. I'll have more about that when the pattern is released!

Sloane Sweater Blog Tour

I know I say this everytime I make myself something new, but I think this has got to be my favorite! I love my jeans, my boots, and yes I love my Sloane!

Sloane by Love Notions (affiliate link) may seem like a very simple top BUT that all depends what you do with it, what fabric you select and what options you include in your design.

At first I was thinking simple, grey, cozy, ready for all seasons type look, you know something that's easy to wear to the grocery store. But why, why should I (or we) limit ourselves to plain even for the grocery store. This is when it hit me, I was going to do the version with the yoke. I knew right off I was going to make the scalloped hem option, and I also have tons of hoodies so it was time to make the regular rounded neckline.

I was in search for lace! A lace with a slight stretch so I wouldn't have to play around to give myself ease at the shoulders.

And there it was, calling to me from the table it was sitting on, just waiting for me to dicover this beautiful scalloped edge.

I cut away the straight edge of the lace carefully and instead of sewing with right sides together for the back yoke seam, I layered them to reveal that pretty edge.

In the Sloane pattern you'll find all you need to create knit tops with different looks everyday of the week... you need to check out the other blog posts on the tour to get those creative juices flowing.

I'm thinking I need to go get more Sloanes on my cutting table, and not just for going to the grocery store!

Origami Tunic Tour

I may have just made myself the most comfy top EVER!  Keep on reading to see how I used the Origami pattern by Love Notions (affiliate link) to create a fun comfortable look.

I spent a week or so going back and forth deciding what style of this pattern I wanted to make and what type of fabric blend I wanted to use. When I thought I was ready to go with the handkerchief hem with a rayon spandex blend fabric, I pull this cotton spandex floral out of my stash! But then the fabric would be a little heavy for the handkerchief hem so I decided on the staight hem. And that wasn't enough either, and thought a band for the bottom hem would look fantastic.

I printed and prepped my pattern for the regular style hem and removed 3 inches from the bottom of the front and back bodice pieces. I measured the width of the pattern piece at the hem and multiplied by 4 since the pattern piece represents 1/4 of the width of the garment. To get some negative ease in the band I multiplied my total width by 0.8.  The band at the bottom was cut out at 6.5 inches high. For a large I ended cutting a band that was 38.5" X 6.5".

I decided on a 3/4 length sleeve, but you can find 3 different sleeve lengths in this pattern to suit your needs.

Will I make it again, you can bet. I actually went back to the original idea of the handkerchief hem in a rayon spandex blend and have it cut out and ready to sew up...which should take me about 45 minutes IF I don't get interrupted by a child asking for snacks, ha!

Hip Hop Tank Tour

Two fun tank tops in two different versions, all that and more as we take a look at one of Tami's first patterns.

I made a Hip Hop Tank by Love Notions (affiliate link) for each of the two girls, JubeJube got a simple version with a bit of a twist and Amelia got the version with buttons down the back.

I used a poly cotton blend knit for Amelia's top and I found some buttons in my stash that were a perfect match. The boots with the shorts, all her idea and I wasn't about to argue with her since she willingly wanted to be photographed with JubeJube.

The details on the button back version were easy and didn't take that much extra time to put together. I was able to put both tops together in an afternoon and both girls were so happy to have a fun new top for the summer.

JubeJube's tank top is made from a rayon spandex blend, with a lot of stretch. I used a print for the front and a solid white for the back she actually wanted it that way.

The Hip Hop Tank pattern includes the layered printing feature so you can print only the sizes you want but since it is one of the first patterns Tami released there are no trimless pages, something that is available in the more recent patterns.

There are two more options on this pattern, a tulip back and a gathered skirt with an empire waist. The Hip Hop Tank is also available in women's version which also includes a sleeve to the pattern so that its work appropriate.

In the end I think this is a great pattern to create some fun summer looks in just a short amount of time, and the girls each have a couple more fabrics selected for me to sew up more tank tops.

Its time for a giveaway... win a $50.00 credit for the Love Notions online shop. You can't win if you don't enter, so what are you waiting for!

Wear to Where Tour Summer 2016

For this segment of Wear to Where, we're heading to the farmer's market. I sewed up an easy fitting dress in a light weight knit fabric, paired it with flat sandals and a burlap shopping tote.

My pattern is Bluezette by Love Notions (affiliate link). I was wanting the maxi length but since I decided I was sewing from my stash I could only get the knee length in...which is fine because I do love the way it turned out. I'll most probably get a lot more wear out of it at knee length.

When I think farmer's market I think tons of gorgeous flowers and fresh produce on a hot sunny day. So we have a hot sunny day but too bad its a week day and the market is only open on weekends.

This is a no hassel look, just get up and go because you do want to get to the market early to be able to get back home early and start food prepping, and just take advantage of the afternoon. This dress is so comfortable to wear, and this pattern has so many options that you'll be able to have one for every day of the week and never feel like you're wearing the same thing twice.

Curious to see what outfit the Librairian For LIfe &Style put together for her trip to the farmer's market...got take a look a her post here!

For the Love of Dresses and Tunics

I'm so excited to be sewing for me again, AND another keeper I might add! Its the last day of the For the Love of Dresses and Tunics Tour featuring the PDF patterns of Love Notions. I get to show you the Pemberly Tunic I've made myself....and at the end of this post you get to enter a giveaway to win 5 patterns and a $50.00 gift card from Girl Charlee Fabrics

When I put this one together I was thinking date night out but this top is so comfortable that I can see it as a date night in. Pair it with leggings and get me some pop corn and I'm ready for movie watching all cuddled up on the couch.

I made the 3/4 length sleeve and added the button tabs. I love that the bodice pattern pieces have two different sizes, regular bust and a fuller bust. Also included in the tutorial are details on how to adjust the front bodice pattern pieces to fit the way you need them to fit.

Pemberly is designed for woven fabrics, I went with a rayon spandex blend.

I will need to make more of these, they're quick enough to make and I'll be able make a short sleeve version!

I was offered this pattern for free for the purpose of the tour, but all opinions are my own!

This is the last day of the tour, so go back and see what you've missed! Don't forget to enter the giveaway! Also...enjoy 10% off  ladies patterns with the code "LADIESLOVE" in the Love Notions pattern shop!
