For the Love of Dresses and Tunics

I'm so excited to be sewing for me again, AND another keeper I might add! Its the last day of the For the Love of Dresses and Tunics Tour featuring the PDF patterns of Love Notions. I get to show you the Pemberly Tunic I've made myself....and at the end of this post you get to enter a giveaway to win 5 patterns and a $50.00 gift card from Girl Charlee Fabrics

When I put this one together I was thinking date night out but this top is so comfortable that I can see it as a date night in. Pair it with leggings and get me some pop corn and I'm ready for movie watching all cuddled up on the couch.

I made the 3/4 length sleeve and added the button tabs. I love that the bodice pattern pieces have two different sizes, regular bust and a fuller bust. Also included in the tutorial are details on how to adjust the front bodice pattern pieces to fit the way you need them to fit.

Pemberly is designed for woven fabrics, I went with a rayon spandex blend.

I will need to make more of these, they're quick enough to make and I'll be able make a short sleeve version!

I was offered this pattern for free for the purpose of the tour, but all opinions are my own!

This is the last day of the tour, so go back and see what you've missed! Don't forget to enter the giveaway! Also...enjoy 10% off  ladies patterns with the code "LADIESLOVE" in the Love Notions pattern shop!

Think Fall Blog Tour With EYMM

I can't tell you how happy I am to show you my Off the Shoulder Top by EYMM (affiliate link). I have to tell you that I almost didn't make it, just say that I made a big booboo while making this top so yes, I do make mistakes but that's a story for another time.

So me and my morning coffee at 6am ready for pictures. I'm so glad I used a heavy knit to make this top because fall is coming and its cool out! "falliscoming" is also the coupon code you can use at checkout for 25% off your purchse of the Off the Shoulder Top & Tunic in either girl's (newborn-18tween) or women's (xs -5x) or you can purchase the bundle to get all sizes! Coupon expires August 20th at 11:59 PST.

I had to change the construction just a bit due to the fact my knit was so heavy. I inserted an elastic at the neckline for structure and I only used one layer of fabric instead of two layers cut on the fold for the cowl or it would have been just too heavy and I would constantly have to pull it back up.

I also changed the direction of my fabric of the cowl, I had to make sure my knit had the same stretch in both direction so I wouldn't feel confined at the shoulders.

Under normal conditions, this top would have been done in about 45 minutes, but even the best plans can sometimes fall apart at the seams. This top is not at all hard to get to put together, I woud say its for a confident beginner. You'll also want to know tha Kymy's patterns are so easy a quick to tape together because there are no borders to trim, just print and tape.

I'm thinking I need to do 6am shoots more often, I acutally look well rested, ha!

Just a look at the other stops along this tour you'll want to check out!

Delilah Pattern Blog Tour

Its my day on the Delilah Blog tour! Delilah by Golden Rippy is a very fun and easy-to-wear dolman top. Go visit their pattern shop, there's also a version for little girls by the name of Dahlia. Seeing that the fabric that I used has a print to it, I went with a very simple short sleeve version of the pattern. I kid you not, this top took me about an hour to make including cutting!

Here are some of the details:
  • This is a pattern sized XXS - XL
  • Designed for knit fabrics
  • Has 2 sleeve options, short sleeves and a hald sleeve
  • Tips and cut outs included for flower and bow embelishments (because once you make one you'll be hooked and you don't want them looking all the same!)
  • Confident beginner pattern, and super easy to follow instructions.

I love that the neckline isn't low, makes it so much easier to run around after pre-schoolers, and I get to do it in style with this top.

Also so easy to dress up for date night with hubby (and he did say he liked this one!).

Just so you know all opinions are my own and I did receive this pattern free in exchange for posting on the tour.

Be sure to visit the other stops on the tour, so much inspiration on how to change up this top!

Asymmetrical Drape top a Design by Everything Your Mama Made & More

Last week it was Sasha's top that I tested in JubeJube's size and this week I got to test a new design by Everything Your Mama Made & More for me, the Asymmetrical Drape top (available in sizes XS to 5XL). So quick and easy that I was able to get it made before date night, plus it was so comfy and stylish that I wore it to dinner. So two very rare things happened on the same day, I was able to sew up something for me AND had a date with my love.

I just don't have the body type to wear horizontal srtipes, those stripes just make everything look wider than they are. The horizontal stripes work for me on this dolman top because of the drap. I would say the most time consuming issue with this top was making sure my stripes did match up at the side seams. So now, I'm sewing for me, going on a date and wearing horizontal  stripes!

I will be making a few more of these for sure and use the different options like the neckline binding and the low waistband. I'll show you how they turn out.

Until next time, xx.

Caroline Party Dress for Women by Mouse House Creations

I started out the month (and the year) with my two youngest, JubeJube and Amelia, in their Caroline Party Dress from Mouse House Creations. I'll be closing out the month with a peek of another Caroline, but this one is the women's version. Sorry that its not available yet, its still in testing. Hayley will keep on working on the pattern until its perfect, and its sooooooo close!

So for the first time EVER on my blog, my eldest daughter, Sabrina, and some photos of the Caroline dress I tested for her.

I made the cap sleeve version with the length of the dress going to the knee. The dress can be made with long sleeves, 3/4 length or short sleeves, and instuctions are given for different skirt lengths (including a peplum top), pleats instead of a gathered skirt, and the list goes on!

I think I see more Carolines in my future.
Now you've seen all three of my girls, I just need to get my son, Sebastien, on here now!

Until next time, xx.

Julia Women's Cardigan by Mouse House Creations

This time a little selfish sewing going on in my work shop. Hayley from Mouse House Creations has launched her second pattern AND, YAY, its for women! I should also mention that the sizes range from XS to XXXL.  This pattern is now available in their Etsy shop.

When you look at the sketch so many options are available, you can't make just one. Since I was in a bit of a time crunch I had to choose only one, but believe me, more of these will be making their way out of the workshop and into my closet! So recovering from my sinus infection and still having the chills I went with the long sleeve and used a heavier knit (that I've had in my stash for about 8 years). Honestly this pattern super easy, it took me just under an hour to sew up. I put it on for a few photos and didn't take it off all day. That my friends is comfy and cozy!

Amazing what a comfy cardigan and a little makeup can do! I love the detail of the cuff at the sleeve, this allows you to adjust your sleeve length after trying it on so you don't end up with super long sleeves. I used a rolled hem for an easy no fuss finish.
